Welcome to 'japan-cheap-travel.com', a complete guide to budget travel in Japan.

This website offers advice and tips on all aspects of cheap travel in Japan, whether your trip is for a few days or a few months.

Despite the rumours and preconceptions, Japan need not be a really expensive place to visit. The recent economic situation in Japan coupled with the weakness of the Yen currency has, over the years, made Japan more affordable for tourists.

We travelled as a couple, for three months along the entire length of Japan and spent less per day than we had previously in Canada and New Zealand, for a similar amount of time.

How we did it

We have recently added an outline of our itinerary to the website. It is by no means a perfect example, but, it should give you some ideas on how you can combine the various options open to you, in terms of cheap travel passes and cheap accommodation options, in order to enjoy Japan and keep to a backpacking budget.
